Spy Cake for Grown-ups

This was a cake for a surprise spy party for a new friend's husband.
Her playing card invitations let everyone know it was a secret 007 party!
The husband loves chocolate so the bomb is a chocolate velvet cake with a chocolate fudge & chocolate buttercream filling.
The base of the cake was a chocolate velvet layer sandwiched between two butter cake layers with choclate fuge and chocolate buttercream filling.
As always, I only used real French buttercream...yummy!

***Updated***
I had a few ask about the size of the cake.  The bottom is three 8" square cake layers and the bomb is 6".
Also, I have several other posts of the SPY PARTY we did for my son as well as his cake...click
and
for more inspiration!

Smiles!

May share this cake with some of the fun parties in the side bar >

Welcome to the Spy Party!!

This sign let the secret agents know where the CIA headquarters was located. We cleverly disguised agency headquarters as a common neighborhood house.
(Made the sign from black foam board, paper mache' letters painted with aluminum paint, and letters cut out of metallic paper using my Cricut.)

After giving the secret password to the security guard stationed at the entrace to HQ, the drivers signed in their agents. The agents went to the fingerprinting area where their prints were taken.
Then they were issued their agent number and badge.

Some agents came in disguise.
Others were given the opportunity to change their appearance at the Secret Agent Disguise station. They were offered hats, dark glasses and mustaches. They could also pick up their special issue hydration unit at that station.

The special agent on the left is obviously a senior agent...check out his 'stache!

(Agent M was very busy prior to all agents showing up to HQ thus some of the pictures of the stations/badges/decorations were taken AFTER the party.)

Secret Agent Party - Agent Training

After the agents registered, they were shown the treasure box
they would recieve after they completed training.
(Entrance to training area.)

The agents participated in target practice,

explosives tossing and an obstacle course.
The agents each received a gold star for their badge
as each objective was completed.
Then they headed inside to get their reward...

Secret Agent Party - The Mission

The Secret Agents head back inside to get their prize
and what do they find?!?!
"The Bad Guys" have stolen the reward!!
They left a blue note with a clue on it...the next clue was
in one of the bombs they left by the front door.
(Birthday boy's uncles were really good guys to play bad guys for
their nephew! Don't tell, but it looked like they were actually
having a pretty good time!)
Here the secret agents are trying to diffuse the bombs
to find the next clue. This part of the mission was a little noisy!
The clue in the bomb led them outside to the laser field.
The clue was wrapped around a sucker. There was a
sucker for each agent, but only one revealed the next clue!

The agents were directed to the bounce house were they searched through
plastic balls labeled with their agent number.

This agent found his plastic ball with ease!

CLOSE UP OF BALLS

One side of the ball was labeled with the agent's number,
the other side had a letter.
The agents had to put the balls in order by agent number
to find the next clue!

They had to find a white box!
Inside were water guns and another clue!
The agents had to arm themselves to
fight "The Bad Guys" to get their reward back.
(Unfortunately, I was laughing so hard at the masses attacking
my brothers, that I didn't get a good photo of the mega watergun fight.
Trust me, it was AWESOME!)
"The Bad Guys" had tied the reward up in a tree and
the agents took turns trying to get it down.

Once they got it opened, they placed the "Evidence" into
their collection bag. The bag was then sent home
with the agents for them to do forensics testing at home.

The Spy Party - The Cake

Yummy bomb cake with bomb cakeballs for each of the secret agents.
After everyone sang 'Happy Birthday' to the birthday boy,
every agent made a wish and blew out their "bomb!"

Secret Agent Party - The Final Mission

As the agents left, they took one last packet home. Their exit mission envelope contained a magnifying glass, crazy teeth, Cracker Jacks, notepad, personalized pens (found them very cheap at Oriental Trading,) a maze puzzle, a flashlight and disappearing ink. The Agents also took home their disguises (hats, glasses, sunglasses) as well as the loot in their evidence bags (candy, coins and waterguns.)
